In 1864, Mariano Ibanez., a visionary man, started making coats by request in his small workshop in Arequipa, Peru. He just used rare fibers brought from his customers from far away highlands where animals like alpaca lived. The extrardinary quality of the fibers used in his creative products made him become popular among the peruvian and european nobilty that lived in Peru at that time.

Since its origins, Ibanez has been selling coats made with alpaca fibers. Nowadays we have started to work with one of the rarest and finest fibers on the planet: Vicuna. This lovely and peaceful animal lives in the heart of the Andes highlands, in Peru. Each vicuna produces small amounts(about one pound per year) of extremely fine wool. T heir fiber is around 13 microns of diameter, so it’s finer than cachemire( 16 microns of diameter ) Vicuna wool is probably the softest fiber in the world. The wool is resistant, light an ultra soft giving the articles made with it a breath- taking refined appereance. This is why vicuna wool is the most expensive in the world.

Vicuna wool was also appreciated more than 1000 years ago, during the time of the Inca Empire. Only the Inca royalty wore garments made from Vicuna mixed with gold and precious stones. Thus making vicuna a fiber reserved to royalty.

The use of this fiber is protected by law. Every vicuna garment will come with goverment certification that prooves fibers were taken by legal procedures, and of course certifying they come from 100% peruvian vicuna’s hair.

Time has passed and we are still a work- by- request company that uses artesan methods in order to not contaminate the planet. We do apply an eco-gentle politic in the treatment of our products so your product will be in great conditions for many years. The 4th Ibanez generation, continue selling vicuna articles by measure in very small quantities, reserved for few clients due to the difficult acces to this rare fiber. This is why since 1864 we have satisfied limited requests. We want to re-discover the luxury tradition handed down by the Incas culture. Luxury reserved not for everybody...
